Heartbreaking images reveal what the devastating LA wildfires look like from space.

Firefighters continue to battle the blaze as wildfires spread in California after they broke out in the hills of LA earlier this week.

The major fires have proven difficult to get under control due to the dry landscape and gusts of wind.

So far, thousands of homes and structures have been destroyed as well as loss of life.

As the fires continue to rage, evacuation orders have been put in place in various parts of the county.

Now, images captured by NASA show just what the wildfires look like from above the atmosphere.

In space, the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) instrument NASA Aqua satellite snapped a shot of the smoke as it blew towards the Pacific Ocean.

In the photo, the enormous line of smoke from the fires is visible.

After the images circulated online, many people took to social media to share their reactions.

On Reddit, one user said that the photos were ‘insanely devastating’ while another person remarked that it looked like ‘hell on Earth’.

A third user wrote: “The sheer destruction is going to be apocalyptic. This is just horrendous.”

A fourth said: “Crazy how many properties are lost. This is so sad.”

A fifth person commented: “Billions of dollars up in smoke and thousands now homeless. Well, ok, the really rich ones probably have another home, but everyone else is screwed. I can't imagine. My house burning down is like one of my biggest fears. Everything, just gone!”

And a sixth added: “The scale of destruction is unimaginable. It’s not just homes that are lost but entire histories and communities. I hope the survivors find the support they need to rebuild. This is a stark reminder of the fragility of life in these high-risk areas.”

Social media users were shocked earlier this week when a resurfaced clip of Joe Rogan talking on his podcast revealed that he had accurately predicted the wildfires back in 2024.

In the clip, Rogan said: “ “I talked to a fireman once, this is one of the reasons it freaked me out, and he was telling me… he goes, ‘dude, one day it’s just going to be the right wind and fire is going to start in the right place and it’s going to burn through LA all the way to the ocean. There’s not a f***ing thing we can do about it’.”
