The terrifying images of a woman trapped upside down under a rock might make you rethink your plan of action if you ever lose your phone on a hike.

The unnamed woman had been attempting to retrieve her lost iPhone when she slipped and fell into a crevice earlier this month.

She had been walking through nature in Hunter Valley, north of Sydney in Australia, when her Apple device had fallen down a three-meter drop between some boulders.

However, instead of accepting her loss and moving on, she decided to try to get her iPhone back by trying to reach for it in the gap.

That is exactly when disaster struck and she fell headfirst into the crevice herself.

What ensued was hours of attempts to rescue the woman who was trapped under a rock.

Her friends tried to help her for an hour before they called emergency services and specialist rescue paramedics arrived on the scene.

Recalling the ordeal on Facebook, NSW Ambulance said that by the time they were alerted to the situation, the woman ‘was hanging by her feet upside down for over an hour by this point’.

NSW Ambulance went on to say: “NSW Ambulance Specialist Rescue Paramedic Peter Watts worked with a multidisciplinary team to remove several heavy boulders to create a safe access point.

“With care, a hardwood frame was built to ensure stability while rescuers worked.”

With the help of a specialized winch, they were able to move a massive 500kg boulder to assist with the rescue, making the woman’s feet accessible to them.

But it would not be easy - the team needed to help the woman break free from a tight ‘S’ bend in the boulders, which took them an hour to do.

Peter Watts said: “In my 10 years as a rescue paramedic I had never encountered a job quite like this, it was challenging but incredibly rewarding.

“Every agency had a role, and we all worked incredibly well together to achieve a good outcome for the patient.”

After seven hours, the rescue team were finally able to pull the woman free from the rock and she emerged from the crevice.

Unbelievably, despite her ordeal, she walked away with only a few scratches and bruises.

However, even though she’d fallen down the hole while trying to retrieve her iPhone, she ended up empty handed and the device was never found.
