One heart surgeon that's famous across social media has shared his advice for people over the age of 40, as there are four things that you should avoid if you want to live a long and healthy life.
It's impossible to be perfect every single day of your life, as there are countless things that you'll encounter every single day that are deemed to be bad for you or detrimental to your long-term health.
However, it would be naive to ignore the notion that certain behaviors and bad habits are particularly dangerous, and the toll they exert on your body only increases as you continue to age.

Dr Jeremy London, a heart surgeon that is famous for the advice he shares on TikTok and YouTube, has offered up four crucial things you should cut out of your life once you turn 40, and you might want to consider these if you plan on living for a long time.
The first two are, by his own admission, things that you should try and regulate well before you reach 40, but it's especially important and notably more dangerous once you pass that age.
It shouldn't surprise you that alcohol is on this list, as Dr London asserts that "if you really want to set the stage for yourself long term, limit or remove alcohol [as] it's toxic to every cell in the body."
This is similar to advice urging people to cut out beers in the twilight years of their life, as it's actively harmful to your cells, most notably the neurons in your brain that keep you in tip top shape.

Additionally, smoking – both traditional cigarettes and cannabis – is another major red flag for Dr London, which comes after a new gruesome side effect was classified for the latter by the World Health Organization.
"It increases your risk of lung cancer, heart attacks, and stroke," asserts the heart surgeon, as he urges people to not vape and smoke for their health's sake, and another TikToker can certainly attest to that as his symptoms were completely eliminated after quitting e-cigarettes.

The third activity to avoid is one that many people don't take seriously enough and that's trading sleep for other activities. It's not a myth that our bodies require eight hours of sleep every single night, as that recovery time is essential to maintain your health and can have long-term ramifications.

You might be tempted to work extra hard at your job in lieu of getting enough sleep, or have a penchant for late night gaming sessions, but in doing that you're sacrificing your health and it's something that can be incredibly dangerous.
Finally, Dr London advises people to avoid toxic people, illustrating that you should instead "focus and nurture on your relationships with the people that you care about and love, because in the end, that's what truly matters."
