Doctors have been left completely stunned after they uncovered a knife that was unknowingly lodged inside a man’s chest for a whopping eight years.

The insane discovery was made after a 44 year old man sought out medical advice as he was experiencing pus leaking from below one of his nipples.

However, medical professionals could never have imagined what they would find upon further inspection.

According to a report by PubMed Central, the patient had absolutely no idea that he had been living with a knife in his chest for almost a decade.

Incredibly, doctors also noted that the man wasn’t having any chest pains or trouble breathing, instead he was struggling with an infection that appeared to have started a week and a half prior.

However, doctors did report that the man had in fact previously been stabbed multiple times in the face, chest, back and abdomen and was treated for his injuries at the time, as well as receiving stitches.

After discovering the blade, which x-rays showed had entered into the chest through the man’s right shoulder area, he was hospitalized.

Medical staff removed the knife in May of this year and the man was discharged after spending 10 days in hospital to recover.

Since then, doctors have reported that the man has made a full recovery after there was concern that the injury could have been fatal if left untreated.

In the report, it said: “This case underscores the potential for significant delayed complications from untreated penetrating chest trauma, particularly in settings with limited access to definitive surgical care. Improved trauma management protocols, including enhanced initial evaluation and follow-up, are essential to prevent such long-term morbidity in resource-constrained environments.”

This story has caused a huge reaction on social media, with many sharing their own thoughts on the matter online.

On Reddit, one user wrote: “In 8 years bruh NEVER went through a metal detector?”

Another said: “Some men will do anything but see a doctor. Oh constant stabbing pain through my chest? Must just be getting old.”

A third person joked: “I guess it's like this stabbing pain in my chest.”

And a fourth added: “I love how human bodies are either hilariously fragile or frighteningly durable. Nothing about this is reasonable yet I know it’s completely plausible, and yet people regularly die from just being punched, but also survive things like this with no issues at all.”
