A woman has died after a ‘fake’ doctor performed surgery while watching a YouTube tutorial.

The horrific incident reportedly took place in Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh, India, when the so-called doctor failed to remove the woman’s kidney stones.

Instead, performing the surgery while drunk, he reportedly cut multiple nerves in her stomach, small intestine, and esophagus, which ultimately resulted in her death.

Many people online have taken to social media to share their horror at the news and to offer their condolences, with one person commenting on the ‘poor patient’.

According to the authorities, the man and his nephew were operating a surgical clinic without any proper authorization.

The victim has been identified as Munishra Rawat, who was experiencing severe abdominal pain earlier this month.

As a result, her husband, Fateh Bahadur, took her to Shri Damodar Aushadhalaya, which is an illegal clinic at Barabanki.

The owners of the clinic informed the woman that she was suffering from kidney stones and recommended a surgery to remove them.

In exchange, the couple were asked to pay Rs 25,000 ($275.58) and later settled on Rs 20,000 ($220.47).

The operation went ahead the following day where Prakash reportedly began to watch a YouTube video to assist him with the procedure.

The scam doctor was also intoxicated when he cut several nerves and made deep incisions in the woman’s abdomen.

The woman died the next day as a result of her injuries from the surgery.

Since then, her husband has lodged a complaint at the local police station and the two men were subsequently arrested.

On Reddit, one user said: “DIY projects are cool n all but last I checked, surgery ain't about watching a YouTube tutorial and vibing with a scalpel.”

Another wrote: “Wtf was he thinking??? Like ‘if I bisect all of these tubey looking things.. one of them has to be the ureter right?’”

A third person commented: “In my opinion, it wasn't so much the youtube video as it was them being drunk while they were trying to do it.”

And a fourth added: “I swear every time I hear about something crazy going on in India it's in Uttar Pradesh. Place must be the Florida of India.”

Now, Gyan Prakash Mishra and Vivek Mishra, have both been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and the SC/ST Act.

They are currently awaiting trial.
