Lily Allen once missed out a major payday after she turned down 200,000 Bitcoin in exchange for a performance.

Now, it seems like the singer might regret this decision after she branded herself an ‘idiot’ for saying no.

This all started back in 2009 when Allen was reportedly offered the Bitcoin to put on a virtual show on Second Life, a 3D online world.

At the time, Bitcoin was new to the market and not worth a fraction of what it is today, so of course, it’s understandable why the offer didn’t appeal to the artist.

In 2009, Bitcoin had no meaningful market value but fast forward to 2014, the cryptocurrency had begun to skyrocket.

This caused Allen to react to the surge, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to write ‘as if’ and referring to herself as an ‘idiot’ for not taking up the offer.

She wrote: “About 5 years ago someone asked me to stream a gig live on Second Life for hundreds of thousands of Bitcoins, ‘as if’ I said. #idiot #idiot.”

And the crypto has continued to grow since then, with one Bitcoin now trading at $89,835.

This might come as a blow for Allen as her 200,000 Bitcoin offer would now be worth a whopping $17.9 billion, which would have made her one of the richest women in the world.

Many people have taken to social media to react to the news, with one user writing on Reddit: “When I was 7, I told my mom about bitcoin and told her to buy in it, but she didn't believe me, because, I was, well, 7. The price was $0.45.”

Another said: “She would most likely have lost them by accidentally deleting her wallet (or similar) before even getting a chance to sell them.”

A third person commented: “Hind sight is always 20-20 . Don’t bash the poor soul. Why OP if you were so smart why didn’t you grab bitcoins worth 10$ at 3 cents a piece and retire now in 2017”

And a fourth added: “I suppose it would have sounded even more ridiculous to her if they also said she couldn't sell them for another 8 years.”

But Allen doesn’t appear to be doing too badly after the loss as her career has hit an all-time high in recent months with the release of her latest album West End Girl and is set to embark on her sold out tour.
