Big red hats immediately became entwined with Donald Trump's political legacy as soon as he first uttered 'Make America Great Again', yet new versions of the gaudy fashion statement appear to feature a 'seriously concerning' detail.
Buying a MAGA hat became almost a rite of passage for supporters of Donald Trump, as the bright red accessory not only became a political statement but also a way of easily spotting fellow Republicans out in the wild.
While it remained singularly focused on the MAGA brand during Trump's first term as president, his failed re-election bid and successful 2024 victory saw a dramatic rise in hat variants that feature varied color options and even different slogans.
Elon Musk appeared to make it his mission to wear as many different Trump-themed hats as possible during his short time in office, including one 'Dark MAGA' variant gifted by the mother of his secret child.

However, one particular new version of the hat displayed in the White House features an ominous prophecy, leaving many across social media seriously concerned for what Trump could be planning in a few years time.
Why are people worried about the hat?
One bizarre moment during a recent visit to the White House from Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders was when they were shown a collection of Trump-themed hats in garish display.
"Exit through a gift shop," wrote journalist Olga Nesterova in a post on X, and some have argued that a 'tacky merch stand' is the perfect encapsulation of the current state of American politics.

However, one worrying detail can be spotted in the top left of the display, as hats featuring the slogan 'Trump 2028' appear to indicate that the current president is looking to return for a third term.

This would violate the 22nd Amendment, which states: "No person shall be elected to the office of President more than twice."
Could Trump stay on as president for a third term?
From a legal perspective this would concretely rule out the chances of Trump standing for a third time, even though his two terms as president weren't consecutive, although the current administration has been known to bend the rules in their favor as much as possible.
"Sorry, why exactly isn't this seriously concerning anyone," questions writer Allison Floyd on X alongside a zoomed-in image of the worrying hats, and others have presented their theories for how he could continue ruling over America.

"It definitely concerns me, but it also concerns me if he tries to position one of his children as the successor," writes one reply. "If she were interested and used the next three years to gain a footing, Ivanka could possibly be a force."

Another way that he could possibly bend the rules was revealed during the same White House visit, as a lightbulb appeared to spark when Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine couldn't have an election during an ongoing war.
This led some to suggest that Trump would be willing to start World War 3 in order to stay in power, yet it would likely take an invasion of American soil to stop any presidential change from going ahead.
