A new poll has revealed what Americans really think of President Donald Trump’s tariffs and his crackdown on immigration.
This comes after it was revealed by the Pew Research Center that the US president has an approval rating of 37%.
Trump returned to the Oval Office in January 2025 and since then, multiple polls have been taken to figure out the thoughts of the US public on his performance.
Mostly recently, a poll that was conducted by the Washington Post and IPSOS has left some people shocked as it revealed that the president has just a 39% positive approval rating.

A whopping 60% of the rating was negative, including 47% who strongly disapprove.
This is the lowest Trump’s approval rating has been since the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
So, how was the poll broken down? The survey factored in six key areas of the president’s performance, including tariffs he has implemented and his crackdown on immigration.
Since Trump returned to office, his administration has introduced several new tariffs on goods that are imported into the US, some of which have been an eye-watering amount.
Immigration has also been a key policy for the US government, with the Department of State stating earlier this year that some 100,000 visas have been canceled since Trump returned to office.
The Republican president previously vowed to 'launch the largest deportation program in American history' so that he could start his bid to get ‘criminals out’ of the US.
Trump said he would remove any illegal immigrants, as he added: “I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”

According to the Washington Post and IPSOS poll, Americans largely do not approve of Trump’s stance on immigration and tariffs. With the latter, 34% involved in the poll approved of Trump’s eye-watering tariffs, while 64% disapprove.
As for immigration, 40% said they approved of the president’s methods, with a considerably higher 58% not a fan of Trump’s immigration policies.
Trump is also polling poorly for key issues such as inflation and the state of the economy, though he did receive positive scores for his policies on the southern border.
Despite the president’s poor ratings, Anna Kelly previously told Newsweek that Trump was ‘delivering on his promises, and the American people remain firmly aligned with the President’s agenda to Make America Great Again, regardless of the Mainstream Media’s so-called polling’.
