An Amazon delivery van has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after it was forced to be rescued by the coastguard following an unfortunate GPS mishap.

We’ve all been in situations where following directions from a GPS has let us down - whether it’s a new road that hasn’t quite been updated on the map or a phantom lane, it can certainly cause problems when the directions go rogue.

However, most of us have probably not experienced anything quite like one Amazon delivery driver who found themselves stranded in the sea off the coast of England after seemingly making a wrong turn.

The incident took place earlier this month in the Thames Estuary, where water flows into the North Sea between Essex and Kent into the southeast of England, as reported by the BBC.

The van became stuck in the mud as the driver attempted to deliver parcels in the area and with the tide coming in, the situation started to look dire.

The driver ended up abandoning his vehicle and the coastguard was called to assist, with the Ministry of Defence confirming that a specialist recovery team had been deployed.

Obviously, the video of the van stuck quite literally in the sea has been doing the rounds online ever since, with many people taking to social media to share their own reactions to it.

On Instagram, one user shared a clip of the bizarre incident, writing: “Amazon delivery drivers use a satnav system unique to the company. However, the system appears to believe the ancient tidal path known as the Broomway is suitable for vehicles. It definitely is not.”

This prompted a lot of others to share their thoughts in the comment section, with one person saying: “If only there was a bridge specifically for getting to the island?? ..... oh wait a minute.”

Another wrote: “satnav or not where is the common sense when you see where it guides you!??”

A third user joked: “Can’t park there mate.”

And a fourth added: “If you’re waiting on a delivery from Amazon today, it may be a bit late and a tad wet.”

Of course, there is a very simple way to navigate a vehicle in the area that doesn’t involve driving headfirst into the sea as there are bridges that connect the mainland to the several islands dotted about the area.

Hopefully this poor Amazon delivery driver will take a different route next time!
