PlayStation fans are enjoying the 'scariest' game they've ever played for absolutely nothing

You might want to consider upgrading your subscription

On the eve of Halloween, there's no better time to dive into a spooky game. You’re in luck, as you too could enjoy the horrors of the 'scariest' game ever alongside countless other PlayStation Plus subscribers with this month's new game.

You should never say no to a 'free' game, and PlayStation Plus is the perfect subscription service for gamers who want to try something they've never heard of before or catch up on any big games that they've missed down the line.

While monthly drops from Sony are relatively random across the year, some periods tend to have similar releases, and October is the most notorious for that, thanks to the proximity of Halloween.

Not everyone is totally on board with horror games, as it's arguably the scariest form because you're in control of the action, yet you'd be silly to miss out on this month's offerings, as it includes one of the best – and scariest – games ever made.

You might have already noticed that the Essential tier of PS Plus this month included the wonderfully terrifying Alan Wake 2 if you missed its release over two years ago, but anyone in the Premium or Extra tiers has been granted an even bigger treat.

The 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake is included in October's additions to the PlayStation Plus subscription library, and there's literally no better time to jump into the mist-ridden town than right now.

If you've never played the iconic 2001 release and haven't quite got around to the sequel just yet, then it's best to remain in the dark (pun intended) with the game as much as possible.

It's not always an in-your-face horror that'll have you jumping out of your seat, but few titles can get under your skin quite as much as Silent Hill 2. There are many sections of the 16-hour story that'll have you peering through your fingers or hidden behind your couch.

One user on Reddit called Silent Hill 2 "easily the most intense horror game on the current market space," with another adding that it's "survival horror's magnum opus and genuinely one of the greatest stories ever told."

Others noted that they couldn't play it without their partner at their side, and a fourth explained how they're "having trouble staying cool out in these streets" and that "I'm not sure I can persevere, s*** is really scary though."

While Silent Hill 2 will still be there on the PS Plus library after the month ends, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't give it a try before Halloween — just make sure to close your curtains, turn the lights off, and put some headphones on for added immersion.
