Grand Theft Auto fans could receive the gift of a major remake in the near future if rumors are to be believed, as keen eyed gamers have spotted a crucial detail on Rockstar Games' website that might suggest the return of an iconic title in the series.

The gaming world was left incredibly disappointed earlier this year when Rockstar Games regretfully announced that GTA 6's initial Fall 2025 release window had to be pushed back until 26 May, 2026.

Fans of the series have been waiting over a decade for a new game to drop, and while GTA Online remains as popular as ever, there's only so long you enjoy the same world - especially as many fans have pointed out its clear deficiencies.

Rockstar could be cooking up the perfect way to pass the time as we all wait for May to roll around though, as some believe they've spotted confirmation that an iconic entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is getting a remake.

Which GTA game is rumored to be getting a remake?

As reported by LADbible, some fans believe that a slip up on the Rockstar Games website has hinted towards the existence of a Grand Theft Auto 4 remake, which would bring the 2008 title to modern consoles.

Unlike every other 3D game in the series, GTA 4 has remained chained to the PlayStation 3, leaving console owners no way of playing the iconic New York based entry.

It might not be everyone's favorite, especially as its somewhat clunky gameplay and smaller-scale world offered a slight change of pace to San Andreas that came before and GTA 5 that dropped after, but it's long overdue a new coat of paint that would let a new generation of gamers experience Niko Bellic's story.

Why do people think GTA 4 is getting a remake?

Much like the rumors surrounding a PS5 upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2, the 'confirmation' of a GTA 4 remake comes from options within Rockstar's customer support portal, as shared on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit by u/devonY7.

People have spotted that you are (or at least, were) able to select 'PS4' as an option when logging a support ticket for GTA 4, which is notable as the game was only ever released on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

This would then suggest that a remake, which would most likely drop on both PS4 and PS5, is being prepped by Rockstar, and this little website malfunction has let it slip earlier than expected.

Unfortunately it appears to have been removed from the support portal when you go and check it now, but multiple people in the comments have verified that it was indeed an option that you could select.

While this has undoubtedly led to plenty of excitement within the community, some are less convinced of this so-called confirmation.

"I wish this were true and there will likely be a re-release, but [Rockstar] don't seem to have any pattern to their platform lists," writes one comment on the Reddit thread. "For example, Chinatown Wars offers a fix for the PC version, even though the game was never released there."

It's then likely just a bug with Rockstar's support portal, especially as it handles all of the developer's games at the same time which are spread across numerous different consoles and platforms.

Many still remain hopefully that something is coming soon though - even just so that they can have something to play following GTA 6's delay - but this rumor has also had the horrifying side effect of making people realize quite how long it's been since GTA 4 released.

"GTA IV finally being ported to its next generation console 17 years later," wrote one user, with another commenter replying: "GTA IV didn't come out 17 years... holy f*** where has the time gone."
