There's no question that Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to have a release like no other, as fans have been waiting over a decade to get their hands on the game. Now, a major 'leak' from developer Rockstar has still left people in shock ahead of the title’s 2026 launch.
You could hear the collective groan across the internet when Rockstar Games announced a delay for GTA 6 earlier this year, pushing its previous 'Fall 2025' release window all the way back to May 26, 2026.
That will make it just under 13 years that fans of the Grand Theft Auto series have had to wait for a follow-up, and while there's no hiding that GTA Online has proved a massive success, it's clear that many are desperate for more.
You can thankfully download a few graphical enhancement mods for GTA 5 to make it feel like you're playing a new game, or watch the trailers released so far for GTA 6 over and over again to see if there are any other small details hidden in plain sight.

Thankfully, a new piece of information has been unintentionally revealed by Rockstar thanks to a recent job listing, and it has only increased the hype for fans who weren't aware that they could be any more excited.
As reported by GAMINGbible, a post on the r/GTA6 subreddit has highlighted one particular detail listed in a recent job posting at Rockstar, as an ad for a Lead Software Engineer points towards the upcoming title being "the largest game launch in history."

Some gamers have taken this to mean a few different things, with suggestions of GTA 6 being the largest download and biggest map ever released in a game being thrown around. It’s more likely that this is referring to the scale, impact, and revenue expected of the game's launch.
The job posting continues to state that staff at Rockstar will ensure that "it scales to deliver an exceptional experience for millions of players worldwide," and many industry analysts and experts are predicting that GTA 6 will be the fastest-selling game of all time — even with a potentially inflated price tag.
Developers are even moving around the release dates of their own games to avoid clashing with Rockstar's release, which is something that has potentially caused disruption following the game's delay. Importantly, it reiterates that the whole industry is aware that most people will be forking out full price to pick up GTA 6 on launch day.

"I don't think they're really wrong tbh," wrote one comment underneath the Reddit post. "A lot of eyes are gonna be on it the day it releases, and after. It's gonna be very interesting in the weeks and days prior to it.
"The older I get the harder it is for me to play any games for longer than an hour or two," they explain, "but I think this will be one of the few exceptions. Can't wait."
A new Grand Theft Auto game would undoubtedly break records in most cases. Then again, having to wait over a decade has created a demand and excitement that makes an industry-breaking launch an inevitability, and it's more a question of how many records will be broken by instead of wondering if they'll be broken at all.
