Every phone that qualifies for a free upgrade has been revealed as Android drops its ‘biggest update in years’.

Android users can now rejoice as the new operating system, Android 16, is finally ready to be dropped.

The version spent months in the beta testing phase but it looks like people will be able to use it this year.

The first phones and tablets to receive the software update will be Google Pixel, with others to follow later on.

However, if you have a Google phone or tablet then you’ll need to have at least a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro in order to upgrade to Android 16.

These devices were launched in 2021 and anything older won’t get the update.

New features with Android 16

Some updates with this operating system version includes the introduction of Live Updates on notifications, which is similar to Live Activities available on iOS.

It gives users real time updates on the lock screen, such as sports scores or Uber rides.

According to Google, the feature will drop with ‘compatible ride-share and food delivery apps’.

Android 16 also comes with new accessibility features, including improved support for hearing aids as users will now be able to switch their device’s mic for audio input while on a call.

For a new security update, Android 16 will build on its Advanced Protection mode.

Google explains: “To enhance these existing device defenses, Android 16 extends Advanced Protection with a device-level security setting for Android users. Whether you’re an at-risk individual – such as a journalist, elected official, or public figure – or you just prioritize security, Advanced Protection gives you the ability to activate Google’s strongest security for mobile devices, providing greater peace of mind that you’re protected against the most sophisticated threats.”

There are lots more features and additions to come, with a plethora of minor improvements that might go unnoticed but will improve the user experience of the device.
