Google is bringing back a fan-favourite shortcut to all of its phones.

If you use Do Not Disturb often on your Android device, you probably noticed a shortcut change earlier this year.

The Alphabet-owned company quietly removed the dedicated Quick Settings tile for Android’s Do Not Disturb (DND) mode during the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop that also brought Android 15 QPR2.

With it came Modes that was a way to let users create custom DND setups like Bedtime or Driving modes, with their own names, icons, and settings. But to make space for this new feature, Google turned the simple Do Not Disturb button into a menu.

What used to be a single tap now took two: one tap to open the new 'Modes' panel and another to turn on Do Not Disturb.

It may be just an extra step, but it was enough to cause havoc among the Android community.

Specifically, it bothered a lot of users who wanted to silence notifications with a single tap without having to sift through other settings. Although, it's a mystery why the company removed the tile in the first place, it looks like Google has listened.

In the beta version of Android 16, a new dedicated Do Not Disturb tile has been spotted, according to Android Authority. It reportedly works just like the old one-tap version, but it will continue to exist alongside the current Modes tile. Users will be able to add either one or both to their Quick Settings menu.

Android Authority noted that the new tile is already working in Android 16 Beta 4, but it’s not clear when Google will officially release it.

Since Beta 4 is the last big test version before Android 16 launches, we might not see the new tile in the final release right away. It’s more likely to arrive in a future update, perhaps in the first major update after Android 16 is out (called QPR1).

In the meantime, Android fans on Reddit have been praising the tech giant for the change.

"Sharing this because there's a lot of people here who hate that Google got rid of the one-tap Quick Settings tile for Do Not Disturb mode," the first user wrote.

"Thank heavens, putting DND behind modes was such a terrible design decision," another commented.

"Glad they reversed that horrible design decision. This annoys me on a daily basis," someone else agreed.
