Google has released a critical Android update urging users to check a key setting now.

According to the update from the tech giant, anyone who uses an Android device should head to their settings to check the feature as soon as possible.

This comes after Google confirmed that its latest software upgrade was now available for users to download and it promises to correct a whopping 107 flaws in the previous version.

To make matters more worrying, two of the bugs have been flagged as having been noticed by cyber criminals who are using them to attack Android phones.

In an Android Security Bulletin, the statement read: “The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in the Framework component that could lead to remote denial of service with no additional execution privileges needed.

“The severity assessment is based on the effect that exploiting the vulnerability would possibly have on an affected device, assuming the platform and service mitigations are turned off for development purposes or if successfully bypassed.”

Now, Google is urging its users to update their devices since the new software has been released in order to make sure their smartphones are cyber secure.

This is currently available for anyone with a Google Pixel device, with other phones taking longer to roll out the update.

Google went on to state: “Exploitation for many issues on Android is made more difficult by enhancements in newer versions of the Android platform. We encourage all users to update to the latest version of Android where possible.”

How to update your Android device

So, if you’re one of the users impacted by this warning, here is some key information on how to update your device.

First of all, you will need to make sure that you are connected to the WiFi and have your battery charged to at least 50% or plugged into a charger.

From there, head your Settings followed by System and then System update.

Download any updates that are pending and, once completed, select Install.

This will prompt your device to restart and, once it has rebooted, will implement the new updates.

Many people took to social media to react to news of the update, with one user writing on Reddit: “Can't wait to see what it will mess up on my phone. Last two updates was the battery life and my ear buds connection. Had to do a full reset to fix it, I am not sure I want to install this now…”

And another said: “I really wish Google would improve the speed at which these updates are applied, takes FOREVER to install.”

I guess you can’t win ‘em all.
