Tech experts recorded themselves attempting to ‘break the iPhone Air’ with a bend test to find out just how durable the new device really is.
This comes after Apple announced a host of new products at its ‘awe dropping’ live event last Tuesday (September 9).
During the event, fans were given a first look at the latest model of iPhone - the iPhone 17 - along with the brand new iPhone Air, which is purported to be the tech giant’s ‘most durable yet’.

The new range of iPhones are expected to be the first ones to use iOS 26’s Liquid Glass design and the screen has a larger display than previous models, with a 6.3 inch display.
The frame of the iPhone Air will be made of titanium, with the firm stating that it will be the most durable iPhone yet. The Pro version will also have a 48 megapixel camera.
Speed will also improve, with Apple announcing that gaming will be better than ever on the iPhone.
But just how durable is the iPhone Air? Experts at Tom’s Guide decided to find out.
Putting it to the test on their YouTube channel, the experts filmed themselves testing out the device by applying pressure on it to bend.
However, the phone held strong as in the clip, they said: “Yeah I’m trying both ways, and it bows but it comes right back into shape, like it barely bows.”

This came during an interview with Greg ‘Joz’ Joswiak, who is the senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple and John Ternus, the senior vice president of hardware engineering.
In the video description, it explained: “From how the iPhone Air exceeded Apple’s expectations and the compromises between iPhone Air vs. iPhone 17 Pro, to the pricing rationale and whether they’re ready for the inevitable iPhone Air bend tests, hopefully you leave this video with a better understanding of this new iPhone.
“But more importantly, we can’t wait to see your reactions to Mark’s question about what iPhone Air means for a future foldable iPhone.”

Many viewers took to the YouTube comment section to share their own reactions to the durability test, with one user writing: “bro just threw the phone in an interview lol this is the Apple I love and either of these two guys would be a great CEO.”
Another said: “haha joz is the only exec that goes a bit off script for apple standards, the iphone toss was a power move.”
A third person commented: “Respect to Joz for putting it on the line, could have been terrible. I guess there's no real need for case if you're sensible.”
And a fourth added: “Mark my words: The reason they did the air was to prove they could make a thin foldable and compact the components into one small area. Doing this now allows them to make a foldable version with a much bigger battery and gives the designers a year or so of real world testing to see if it has any potential flaws. Pretty neat stuff.”
