Tesla engineer quits company after 8 years with scathing message for Elon Musk on way out

He made sure to leave a mark on his way out

While not every resignation letter is tinged with fury, one Tesla engineer's exit from the electric car manufacturer caused quite the storm inside the company as he left his scathing thoughts of CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla doesn't exactly have the best reputation when it comes to employee satisfaction, as brutal meeting ground rules and lawsuits from former employees who claim that their concerns were ignored paint a rather poor picture of the world's most valuable car company.

Some would argue that it's all part of working in such a cutthroat industry though and it's a necessary evil to achieving the kind of success that Tesla has, yet one former employee's explosive exit has only furthered that narrative once more.

Elon Musk isn't the founder of Tesla – despite that being in his official job title at the company – yet it would be nearly impossible to separate him from the vehicle manufacturer at this point despite suggestions that he was close to being replaced as CEO earlier this year.

Everything appears to go through the billionaire, and the company is driven by his goals and what he wants to achieve, but that kind of dogmatic leadership can also lead to some issues on the employee front if they aren't aligned with the all-encompassing 'mission'.

As reported by Business Insider, this is what happened in the case of Giorgio Balestrieri, who was an engineer at Tesla for eight years, working on the company's autobidder platform until he announced his departure on Thursday.

While someone leaving a company like Tesla isn't exactly news as there's turnover all of the time, it's what Balestrieri said about his departure – particularly in reference to Musk – that has caught people's attention.

"The main reason I'm leaving is that I think Elon has dealt huge damage to Tesla's mission (and to the health of democratic institutions in several countries)," Balestrieri declared in a LinkedIn post, adding that "Elon's leadership and decision-making seem seriously compromised."

This is likely in reference to Musk's move into the political world following his role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration, alongside his comments on other foreign nations including the United Kingdom and his support of the far right AfD party in Germany.

"This is not just about politics," Balestrieri clarified, however, "it's about lying to the public, manipulating public discourse, targeting minorities and supporting climate change deniers and political forces aligned with the oil and gas industry.

"It's fairly indisputable that the current US administration is slowing down the energy transition," he continued. "Unfortunately, speed is critical if we are going to avert the worse consequences of climate change."

Arguments over electric vehicles was one of the primary reasons for Musk's public split with Trump, as the latter has since removed significant regulations that drove towards a more environmentally conscious future, but Balestrieri doesn't believe that Musk has done enough to continue the fight.
