Tesla Cybertruck in first reported crash

Reports allege a Cybertruck has been involved in a collision.

It looks like a Tesla Cybertruck has been involved in one of the first reported crashes, where a car drove into it.

Reddit user boddhya posted images on the subreddit r/cybertruck which appear to show a Cybertruck involved in a collision with another car.

The pictures are accompanied with the caption 'Head on today on CA-17'.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) told The Verge that units responded to a two-vehicle accident on SR 35 (Skyline Boulevard), a picturesque highway that runs predominantly along the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

According to The Verge, California Highway Patrol gave the statement:

"Our preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Corolla was traveling south on SR-35 southbound, south of Page Mill Road, at an unknown speed, when the driver, for unknown reasons, turned to the right and subsequently struck a dirt embankment on the right shoulder. The Toyota then re-entered the roadway, crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, and crashed into a Tesla Cybertruck traveling north on SR-35 northbound."

So it sounds like a Toyota hit a Cybertruck - and as you can see from the pictures, the Corolla sustained significant damage, while the Cybertruck - at least from the angle provided - looks relatively unscathed, however damage could have been caused on the front left of the truck.

It's one of the first widely reported collisions involving a Cybertruck.

According to The Verge, the CHP said there was a suspected minor injury to the Cybertruck driver, who declined medical transportation. The CHP also apparently noted that the Cybertruck did not appear to be operating in autonomous mode.

The first Cybertrucks were delivered to customers a month ago, and are increasingly being seen out in the wild.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), crashes for vehicles on the whole are on the rise.

The government body said that the number of police-reported traffic crashes increased by 16% from 2020 to 2021 - from 5.25 million to 6.10 million.

Tesla has been contacted for comment.
