Stranger Things star has stark one word response when asked if he enjoyed show's controversial finale

He hasn't held back

One of Stranger Things' most prominent actors has spoken out agains the show's controversial finale, issuing a brutal one-word statement in response to a fan question.

It's unfortunately not uncommon these days for a fan-favorite show to fall at the final hurdle, and with the popularity of social media we've never had greater access to how the show's actors really feel about its conclusion.

Nothing could quite beat the horror that Game of Thrones' cast visibly displayed when they witnessed how the hit fantasy show came to a close, and it seems like Netflix sensation Stranger Things has received a similar treatment from one of it's central stars.

While he might not be one of the main gang, Matthew Modine was undeniably a core part of the Stranger Things narrative from the very beginning, as he played Dr. Martin Brenner — otherwise referred to as 'Papa' by his test subjects and the show's wider online fanbase.

He didn't make an appearance in the show's fifth and final season, departing in its penultimate chapter, but that didn't stop him from weighing in on the controversial final episode in a stark one-word comment.

One commenter underneath one of Modine's recent Instagram posts asked him if he like the show's finale, to which he replied a simple 'nope', stunning fans with his blunt reply.

"It takes real talent to be honest," wrote one user in response, with others echoing a similar sentiment. The original commenter notes that they share the same opinion, arguing that "it could have been way better and not just something to end the story because it had to."

Many were left so disappointed with the eighth and final episode of Stranger Things 5 that they became convinced that a 'secret' episode existed containing the 'true' ending, but that hasn't come to fruition.

One twist to this tale, however, extends to Modine's comments on his most recent post, to which he was asked the exact same question but indicated that he hadn't even watched the finale.

Whether his opinion of the show's conclusion had came from what he'd heard about it from others – and perhaps even fellow cast members – or whether he had simply misinterpreted the original question remains unclear, yet it has reignited discussions about the show's ending, drawing comparisons to other similar events.

Modine even weighed in on the aforementioned secret episode conspiracy – which some believed would finally be revealed during the Super Bowl on February 8 – noting that he didn't think it would happen.
