We're in a new golden age of television, and with 2025 debuting shows like It: Welcome to Derry, Adolescence, and Alien: Earth alongside returning favorites like Pluribus and Andor, TV fans are spoiled.

Our screens are set to be filled all over again in 2026, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The Testaments, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale sure to provide a feast. With everything from a Scrubs revival to the long-awaited third season of The Comeback, Lanterns expanding the DCU to Mike Flanagan's Carrie miniseries, it doesn't sound like we'll be short of things to watch on our cocktail of streaming services.

Sadly, 2025's 'best' TV show won't be back this year.

While some people have decried Vince Gilligan's Pluribus as 'boring', the Breaking Bad creator has defended his latest outing ahead of season 2. As well as Pluribus breaking records for Apple TV, Gilligan has outlined his plans for a potential three-season arc, with Pluribus being billed as the new Severance.

Even though the sci-fi thriller is a very different beast from Severance, it could have some uncomfortable similarities due to a lengthy wait between seasons.

Despite pleas from horror legend Stephen King, Gilligan has repeatedly warned that Pluribus season 2 is likely a long way off. Fear not, as over on Reddit, TV fans have been championing an underrated series as a temporary replacement for Pluribus.

Released in 2023, Mrs. Davis comes from Damon Lindelof and aired on Peacock. Remembering Lindelof as one of the brilliant minds behind the likes of Lost and the Watchmen miniseries, Mrs. Davis has all the tropes of a sci-fi classic.

Starring GLOW's Betty Gilpin as Sister Simone, Mrs. Davis follows the no-nonsense nun as she battles an omnipotent artificial intelligence (called 'Mrs. Davis') who threatens the human race. Sister Simone races against the clock to find the Holy Grail, destroy Mrs Davis, and return humanity's free will.

If sounding like a suitable Pluribus stopgap wasn't enough, Mrs. Davis' eight-episode run has a lofty 92% critic score and 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Replying to the OP, someone else said: "I literally was saying to my friend while we watched Pluribus that it reminded me a lot of Mrs. Davis! Glad I’m not the only one."

Another cheered: "The similarities are astonishing, even down to the color palette."

A third concluded: "It's sadly an illustration of how criminally unseen Mrs Davis is, that everywhere I look and listen, virtually no one seems to be noting the clear and stark parallels between MD and Pluribus (which is excellent--I am not calling it a shallow ripoff by any means)."

Sadly, while we know Pluribus is coming back for more, Mrs. Davis was a one-and-done. A 'heartbroken' Gilpin explained how she'd have loved to have done 10 seasons of Mrs. Davis, whereas finale director Owen Harris reiterated that there wouldn't be a second season. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Harris explained: "For me, there was always a sense of this story needing to reach a conclusion in a way that didn’t want it to be a cliffhanger. And I also think that maybe I would have found it frustrating if we’d been that playful with the story to not conclude it."

It might be disappointing that there are just eight episodes of Mrs. Davis to enjoy, but at least it's something to put on your watchlist ahead of Pluribus season 2.
