A YouTuber documented his experience moving into a ‘dystopian’ Alaskan town where all of the residents live in the same building.

And he ended up making quite a heart-warming discovery.

The two men behind the Seek Discomfort YouTube channel, Thomas Brag and Staffan Taylor, explored the unusual city which they accessed by tunnel.

Whittier is a small part of Alaska that has a large 14-storey building where the majority of its population lives.

Due to the harsh climate, the town has everything they need in one place including a grocery store, a school, a church and even a post office.

In the video, the YouTubers explained: “On our quest to explore the world's most interesting places, we find ourselves on the southern coast of Alaska heading towards a town with less than 300 residents, almost all of whom live under the same roof.”

They continued: “We are going to drive through a very long tunnel to get to another one of the more remote communities in the world who lives all by themselves in one building.

“We've actually rented a room inside the building and apparently some people say they have not left the building for a couple of months because they feel that they have everything they need inside of the building.”

But upon discovery, the pair found a close-knit community that had bonded over their shared living experience.

The YouTubers said: “We were a bit daunted before coming to Alaska, the vast expanse extreme isolation and harsh climate that this state has to offer can be overwhelming but what it does is force the people living here to come closer together to unite, not just to survive but thrive as some of the tightest knit communities we've ever witnessed.

“The way that these communities share everything and take care of each other is something we can all take lessons from and apply to our own communities, even if it's not in the Arctic tundra because no matter how harsh your environment is, I find that the key to thriving is truly sticking together with those around you.”

Many viewers were touched by the heartfelt video, with a lot of them taking to the YouTube comment section to share their reactions.

One user wrote: “I’ve seen this community many times on YouTube and you showed why they’re so enjoyable.”

And another said: “The channel is Seek Discomfort, but I feel so comfortable here.”
