Sometimes you don't quite understand the impact that certain food and drink can have on your body until you cut it out, and that's exactly what happened to one woman who shared how her face changed after just eight days without alcohol.

Medical experts have repeatedly issued warnings for people who drink alcohol on a regular basis, with some even going to extreme lengths by suggesting that you should cut it out entirely after a certain age.

While a drink every now and then isn't going to harm you too much, drinking excessively – either in binged sessions or repeatedly over a long period of time – can be incredibly harmful for your body and health, especially as you grow older.

The effects of cutting out alcohol can be seen over a surprisingly short amount of time as your body recovers from the toxins within the drink, and one woman has shown that off through an illuminating video comparing her face before and after cutting out the habit.

As reported by LADbible, the video was shared on YouTube by Yoga With Paige, as she gave up alcohol for Dry January: a popular post-Christmas habit where people so sober for the first month of the year.

"Follow along on my 30 day sober journey where I'll show you the ups and downs of completely stopping drinking," the description of the video reads. "You'll see my real life daily updates of each high and low — how I'm feeling, what I'm struggling with, how my thoughts change as I document what happens to my body and mind."

This first video shows her face on the first day of sobriety compared to the eighth, and while the differences are subtle some are still able to spot what they view as a positive transformation.

"The skin and eyes are always the first to change. You look healthier," estimates one comment, and another noted how they "love how hydrated your skin looks on day 8."

She followed up this video with another comparison at the end of Dry January, showing her face at day one again compared with how she looks after 30 days without alcohol.

While Paige's herself was seemingly disappointed with the results – noting that she "expected a bigger face change" – multiple comments disagree with her and see how much of a transformation just a single month has caused.

"Wow. I see a big difference. Your skin is clearer and glowing in the most [recent photo]," argues the top comment underneath the clip, with Paige admitting that she's "a little self critical hahaha."

Another user expressed that "you look much better," with a third chiming in by saying that Paige's "skin is glowing and you look so much more awake now, I can see the difference."

You won't just be able to witness a change on the visual side of things either, as there will be a noticable difference inside your body and with your mood too, so it's definitely something to give a try even just for this month to see if you feel and look better by the end.
