It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that the United States government is prepared for the possibility of nuclear war, yet the extent to which it'll protect the most powerful people might still shock you.

Many worry that the world is edging ever closer to nuclear war, as tensions appear to be increasing between the key global figures like United States, Russia, and China with the threat of conflict looming.

Perhaps the only thing that's kept weapons at bay for decades now is the prospect of mutually assured destruction, but with the supposed development of advanced defense mechanisms like Trump's Golden Dome project, this could change in the near future.

If a nuclear bomb were to elude these defenses though and strike the United States, there's one place that many of the country's most important people would flock to, only its top secret and invite only.

YouTube news channel Inside Edition, alongside author and journalist Garrett Graff, have exposed a secret nuclear bunker hidden in a mountain in Pennsylvania that's designed to hold 7,000 Americans — but only if you're lucky enough to make it onto the list.

Constructed in the early 1950s, the Raven Rock Mountain Complex is a top-secret US military base that's since been significantly expanded to serve the possibility of nuclear war.

While there's technically plenty of space inside, the only people permitted to enter it in the event of an attack are the officials themselves, with their family members unfortunately left to fend for themselves above ground.

According to Graff, the types of people that will earn themselves a ticket to Raven Rock include "your high ranking government officials, your cabinet leaders, your congressional leadership, members of the Supreme Court, as well as top aides, White House staff."

Whether that includes the president is unclear, yet it's likely that if it did, they would take the infamous 'doomsday plane' over to the Pennsylvania mountain as an emergency measure.

One perhaps unexpected participant in this preservation mission is a Subway worker, as the base currently has a retail station for the famous sandwich shop.

Graff explains that the person lucky enough to be working the moment the evacuation measures are put in place will land themselves a spot inside Raven Rock, although the prospect of serving sandwiches in a bunker for an undetermined length of time isn't exactly the life that many would desire alongside the country's most powerful people.
