After weeks of threats aimed at Greenland by President Donald Trump, the US leader has suggested that a deal could be in the works.
This comes after the president announced his wishes to seize control of Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark.
In a series of notes published to social media, Donald Trump shared his plan for the US to take over the land, with one post reading: “NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that ‘you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland.’ Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!”
Reacting to the threats, a joint statement was released by the UK, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, which read: “We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland. Building on the process begun last week, we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind.”
The Nato allies went on to warn that Trump’s threats towards Greenland “undermines transatlantic relations.”

In retaliation, the US president threatened to impose tariffs on the allies unless they backed his plan to take control of the territory, but Trump has since appeared to back down on this.
In a recent post to his own social platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region.

“This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations. Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect on February 1st.”
In the message, the president referred to his infamous ‘Golden Dome’, adding that discussions are being held concerning the dome ‘as it pertains to Greenland’.
Trump continued: “Further information will be made available as discussions progress. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and various others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations — They will report directly to me. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Last year, Trump revealed that a Golden Dome defense system is in the works, although there have been concerns about its cost and some people branding it the ‘dumbest’ idea in history.
Trump’s dome is seemingly inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, with the POTUS announcing that the US would be getting its own version, vowing that this will knock all missiles out of the sky with the success rate being ‘very close to 100%’.
