The threats made towards Greenland by President Donald Trump in recent weeks has sparked concern among Nato allies.
The US leader has expressed wishes to seize control of the land, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark.
Trump has claimed this is due to a matter of ‘national security’ for the US, arguing that this is ‘not about minerals’.
A joint statement was released by the UK, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, which warned that Trump’s threats towards Greenland ‘undermines transatlantic relations’.
In the statement, it reads: “We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland. Building on the process begun last week, we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind.”

So, what would it take to remove Trump from his post following his threats towards Greenland?
There has been public outcry over the president’s remarks in recent weeks, with many calling for the 25th amendment to be invoked.
The amendment to the Constitution states that in the case of the removal of the president, the vice president shall become president.
This would mean that JD Vance would take over the top spot in the absence of Trump.
The call for this amendment has also come from politicians after Trump’s shocking message to Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Store was revealed.
In a note after finding out he had not won the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump wrote to Store: “I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.

“Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also.”
Reacting to this, Arizona Representative, Yassamin Ansari, said on social media: “The president of the United States is extremely mentally ill and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason – we need to invoke it immediately.”
As of last night (January 21), Trump appears to have escalated his threats on Greenland, claiming that the ‘framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland’ is in the works.
Later on while speaking to the press, the president referred to this as a ‘concept of deal’, although not much is known about the details.
