The wait for the next Avengers movie has been almost as heartbreaking as Tony Stark's Avengers: Endgame death, made even worse by complaints that the output since has been somewhat middling.
While there have been highlights like Agatha All Along and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, lows like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Secret Invasion have left many begging for another full-blown Avengers movie.
Even though Marvel Cinematic Universe overlord Kevin Feige warned we might not be getting a traditional Avengers follow-up, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was reworked as Avengers: Doomsday following Disney's high-profile sacking of Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror.
With critics thinking the MCU has long-since peaked, Doomsday needed something big to lure naysayers back.

Thankfully, this has already been somewhat done in the form of major cast returns, including Chris Hemsworth's Thor, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the old guard of Fox's X-Men, like Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier and Ian McKellen's Magneto.

The big coup is nabbing Robert Downey Jr., who isn't returning to the MCU as Iron Man, but is instead stepping up as Doctor Doom.
An already delayed Doomsday is due to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and with the one-year countdown looming, fans are eagerly anticipating our first trailer.
There's been much speculation about when our first look at the superhero ensemble will land, with most assuming it will play ahead of James Cameron's Avatar: Fire & Ash. Considering that it debuts on December 19 and is another Disney behemoth, the timing would be perfect.
Others think YouTube has spoiled the surprise early, with the Marvel Studios official YouTube channel including a mysterious 'private video'. This unnamed clip was included in the "Official Trailers" playlist alongside the likes of 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, as well as a peek at 2012's The Avengers.
The implication is that a Doomsday trailer/teaser is just around the corner, with various scoopers saying it might land online just one day before Fire & Ash. This makes sense in hopes of stopping those sneaky cinema pirates filming it from screenings of the Avatar movie, then uploading it for their own clout.
Elsewhere, a listing has appeared on the Korean Ratings Board and mentions a mythical Doomsday trailer with a runtime of 1 minute and 25 seconds.
Despite fears that the trailer will be the shortest Avengers peek yet and will be little more than a teaser without any actual footage, anything related to Avengers: Doomsday is sure to break the internet.
Still, after we sat through an achingly long cast reveal that had us looking at empty chairs for five hours, here's hoping Disney has learned from its marketing mistakes and is going to give us something more substantial when it comes to the next assembling of the Avengers.
