Elon Musk's new X policy exposes MAGA influencers for who they really are

'Bot' you talkin' about?

The MAGAverse is quaking in its boots, as it seems the mission to make America 'great' again might not be as red, white, and blue as you'd think. Spurred on by President Donald Trump and iconized by those infamous red hats, the MAGA movement continues to gain traction during the POTUS' second term.

We briefly saw the rise of 'Dark MAGA' as Elon Musk sported a black hat, a number of MAGA influencers have been platformed by the Epstein file scandal, and the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk has only thrown fuel on the already roaring MAGA fires.

Even though it's been a tumultuous year for Donald Trump, there's no denying there's still plenty of MAGA support out there. You only have to look at the number of anonymous X accounts proudly waving the flag or creating AI photos of bald eagles to see this in action, although they're apparently not quite as patriotic as you'd think.

While Elon Musk and President Trump seem to be on better terms in the aftermath of the former spectacularly claiming the Commander-in-Chief was named in the Epstein files, the world's richest man might've just accidentally pulled the rug from under the MAGA movement.

X has just rolled out the 'About This Account' feature, which lets users check where someone is based. In an attempt to regain authenticity from bots on X, the social media giant allows you to see an account's location, how many times it has changed its username, when it first joined X, and how the app was downloaded.

It's been praised by those who continue to claim that artificial intelligence is taking over and that X has become a 'poison' wasteland of bots and fake engagement, but on the other side of the coin, it's just been exposed that many MAGA supporters aren't even located in the USA.

The update doesn't come as much of a shock, especially considering that Head of Product Nikita Bier said X was going to start experimenting with displaying this information on profiles back in October. It was supposed to start with X employees, but now, it looks like we've got a full rollout.

It's a nice idea to try and reveal whether so-called bad actors are posing as Americans while actually being scammers from Nigeria or spies from Russia, but for the MAGA community, it's had an adverse effect.

As reported by the Daily Beast, Democratic influencer Harry Sisson relished the reveal and called it "easily one of the greatest days on this platform." As a trend emerged, Sisson cheered: "Seeing all of these MAGA accounts get exposed as foreign actors trying to destroy the United States is a complete vindication of Democrats, like myself and many on here, who have been warning about this."

Many accounts pushing right-wing political content were found to be based in the likes of India, Nigeria, and Russia.

Referring to these 'foreign trolls', the Daily Beast mentioned a popular account called MAGANationX. Despite boasting nearly 400,000 followers and a bio that reads, "Patriot Voice for We The People,” the account is based in Eastern Europe.

Since the reveal, MAGANationX has had its posts flooded with replies branding it a 'Russian bot'.

Elsewhere, IvankaNews has a million followers and is known for warning about the supposed dangers of Islam, illegal immigration in the USA, and showing its support for Trump.

You might be interested to know that it's based in Nigeria.

The situation was summed up by left-wing influencer Micah Erfan, who concluded: "This is total armageddon for the online right. It’s looking like half of their large accounts were foreigners posing as Americans all along.”
