Spotify users have been left furious after the app added a bizarre new feature that ‘nobody asked for’.
The music subscription app has brought in a new addition that is already a fixture for many social media platforms.
However, users don’t seem to be too pleased with the change, with some highlighting that while there are plenty of things people are hoping will be brought in, this is something that ‘nobody’ has requested.
Both free and premium accounts on Spotify will now feature direct messages, where users can send messages as well as share audio content with one another.

Many people have taken to social media to react to the news, with one user writing on Reddit: “Gotta keep justifying price increases.”

Another said: “Maybe we all need LESS social media. They’re going to have ads running rampant in these chats. It’s all about them making a profit and not user experience. Literally nobody asked for this. We share music by texting each other and talking on the dozens of other social media available. They’re not slick for this and it’s obvious what they’re up to.”
A third person commented: “WHO EVEN ASKED FOR THIS??? Cant wait for something new to come along, so i can ditch Spotify. Their recommendations have been complete s*** for more than a year now anyway. Same songs or remixes of same songs over and over again.”

And a fourth added: “It almost feels like every app is feature creeping so much into other apps that all apps will just become the same.”
This isn’t the first app in recent weeks to reveal a new feature that is already available on other platforms.

Earlier this month, Instagram announced that people will finally be able to repost their friends’ photos onto their own grid, which is a function Instagram hasn’t given to its users before.

But while it is joining the photo-sharing app for the first time ever, the feature is already available on TikTok.
How does reposting on Instagram work?
The new Meta feature is somewhat limited as a repost will only appear in its own tab on your profile, similar to other social media apps like TikTok.
Also similar to TikTok, users will now be able to open up Reels and see a feed that consists of only posts from their friends.

It looks like the changes are an attempt from Instagram to adapt to the changing way people use social media, claiming that it wants to include more content that people actually care about.
The new feature is now available to use across the US, with plans for it to be rolled out globally.
