Instagram users are ecstatic after the platform has finally launched a feature they have been eagerly waiting for.
And while the feature is already available on TikTok, it will be joining the Instagram app for the first time ever.
Now, people will finally be able to repost their friends’ photos onto their own grid, which is a function Instagram hasn’t given to its users before.
The news has caused a reaction on social media, with many sharing their own thoughts on the matter.

On Reddit, one user wrote: “I am curious to see does it just show as reposted or on your profile some where then too. Very interesting change. Will cause a big shift I think with instagram.”
Another said: “Does it notify the person you repost from? Was lurking on someone’s page and accidentally reposted a photo, clicked undo super quickly - deactivated my whole account to be sure.”

A third person commented: “They also added a friend's tab, right next to the reels tab, that shows content that your friends/followers liked or reposted. It's interesting to notice that X made people's likes private and now Instagram is going back to showing ‘everything’ that you do on the app.”

And a fourth added: “My thing is does it actually HELP my friends/ mutuals in a tangible way when I do it? I can’t figure out where the hell these reposts even go other than my own profile, at let’s be real, no one really visits my profile now a days.”
However, not everyone was thrilled by the move, with one user writing: “It’s a load of bollocks, doesn’t post to your feed or your followers feed, it’s basically just another way to pin posts to another grid type thing.”
And another complained: “Disgusting feature. At least ask for confirmation so users don't accidentally do it.”

How does reposting on Instagram work?
The new Meta feature is somewhat limited as a repost will only appear in its own tab on your profile, similar to other social media apps like TikTok.

Also similar to TikTok, users will now be able to open up Reels and see a feed that consists of only posts from their friends.
It looks like the changes are an attempt from Instagram to adapt to the changing way people use social media, claiming that it wants to include more content that people actually care about.
The new feature is now available to use across the US, with plans for it to be rolled out globally.
