Social media has undeniably become one of the most powerful political tools across the past decade and beyond, and Joe Rogan now believes that it could be the key factor in turning America into a dictatorship in a new dystopian theory.

Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan is certainly no stranger to conspiracies ranging from aliens to medicine, and has increasingly become acquainted with many of the world's most powerful individuals across the last few years.

Between the biggest tech CEOs and powerful political figures including US President Donald Trump, Rogan has gained a close look at the world's elite, and has used that to share his own theory of a dark future for American politics.

What is Joe Rogan's 'dystopian' social media theory?

As reported by the Daily Mail, Joe Rogan outlined on a recent podcast episode with guest Cory Sandhagen that social media could be key to a political party's goal of achieving a dictatorship across America.

He highlighted his fears in particular following the COVID-19 pandemic, where he claims that people were silenced across various social media platforms for sharing various medical conspiracies, including ivermectin-based treatments which Rogan claims were 'factual information'.

According to the podcast host, the current tech landscape - including the biggest social media CEOs - holds a 'very progressive left-wing ideology', and his dystopian fear would be if this shifted towards the political right in the future.

"The problem is then what if the f***ing right gets in place and they use the same rules you used on them. Now we don't have a country anymore. I know now we're f***ed. Now we're just like every other dictatorship," Rogan proclaimed.

He supports this claim through his friendship with Elon Musk, who is currently the owner of X, formerly Twitter. "Because I'm friends with Elon, I knew what was going on at Twitter behind the scenes," Rogan explains, "I knew how the government was stepping in and silencing posts."

Rogan alleges that Musk was forced by the US government - led by Joe Biden at the time - to censor and remove posts from private citizens regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, which the podcast host called "very, very un-American."

The implication is that many other social media platforms were also forced to perform similar take downs - something that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has admitted - so if a right wing government were to do the same that could suppress any and all forms of protest and dissenting opinion.

However, Rogan's assessment that the tech and social media leadership skews towards 'very progressive' and 'left wing' doesn't exactly line up following Trump's election victory.

Zuckerberg, who holds control over Facebook and Instagram, not only donated a significant financial sum to Trump, but also implemented highly controversial hate speech guideline changes following Trump's inauguration.

Additionally, while they might have fallen out now, Musk remained a key member within the Trump administration as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, and has made his right-leaning politics clear across his own social media page.
