JD Vance has been banned from a competitor of X just 12 minutes after writing a controversial first post.
Vice President JD Vance has officially been suspended from Bluesky as of Wednesday (June 18) just minutes after writing his first post.
Announcing that he was joining the social media platform, Vance wrote on Bluesky: “Hello Bluesky, I've been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I'm thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.”
Along with his post, Vance shared a screenshot of conservative Justice Clarence Thomas’ statement on the Supreme Court’s ruling to uphold Tennessee restrictions on transgender medical treatment for minors.

In two more posts, Vance continued: “To that end, I found Justice Thomas's concurrence on medical care for transgender youth quite illuminating. He argues that many of our so-called "experts" have used bad arguments and substandard science to push experimental therapies on our youth.

“I might add that many of those scientists are receiving substantial resources from big pharma to push these medicines on kids. What do you think?”

Within 12 minutes, Vance’s account was suspended from the platform and later reinstated.
Since then, the vice president has been blocked by over 55,000 users with many taking to Bluesky themselves to share their reactions to Vance’s posts.
One user wrote: “Don’t just block. Report the account and the posts.”
Another said that they had ‘reported’ the post ‘for misinformation’.

A third person responded to Vance by commenting: “I think you're an a**hole, and I think you don't actually give a f*** what actual scientists say about actual research. I think you're a disingenuous bigot and I think you lack basic human empathy and anything resembling a soul.”
And a fourth added: “Where did Clarence Thomas go to medical school and when did he graduate again? Refresh me, please.”

Even celebrities reacted to the news, with Star Trek actor George Takei writing: “Treat JD Vance on Bluesky like we did Donald’s birthday parade. Ignore it, don’t show up to watch it, and he will soon become sad and dejected.”

In a statement about the brief ban, Bluesky said: “Vice President Vance’s account was briefly flagged by our automated systems that try to detect impersonation attempts which have targeted public figures like him in the past. The account was quickly restored and verified so people can easily confirm its authenticity.
“We welcome the Vice President to join the conversation on Bluesky.”
