As AI adoption spreads worldwide, some people are choosing artificial companions over traditional relationships, while others have found their partners leaving their marriages for artificial lovers.

One woman admitted to convincing ChatGPT into breaking protocols as she 'groomed' it into a relationship, other stories have ended in more tragic ways.

Despite the growing trend, many experts are warning about the risks of AI dating.

But away from AI relationships, some individuals are abandoning the idea of partnerships altogether and focusing romantic energy entirely on themselves.

Brazilian influencer Suellen Carey made headlines for marrying herself in a 'sologamy' ceremony in London. However, after nearly a year of marriage, she decided to call it quits in August 2024.

Discussing her decision to end things with The Mirror, Carey acknowledged the challenges she encountered in committing to herself.

“It’s crucial to know when to end a cycle,” Carey reportedly said. “Even commitment to oneself can have its challenges, such as dealing with the expectation of being perfect for yourself all the time.”

The split follows her realisation that the self-relationship had become 'too exhausting' and left her feeling isolated, despite her original goal of promoting self-love and independence. She felt that she was 'putting a lot of pressure' on herself.

"I understood that even in a marriage with ourselves, it’s important to accept our imperfections,” Carey explained.

The 36-year-old influencer also revealed that she attended ten solo therapy sessions attempting to salvage the self-marriage. But the Mariah Carey impersonator explained she'd placed unrealistic expectations on herself and recognised the need to know when to move on for personal development.

Carey was reportedly first told she resembled the pop icon when she began her gender transition over a decade ago at 23 years old.

Followers have responded to an Instagram post reporting the news with both humour and understanding, with some relating to her experience.

"I’m surprised it lasted that long," one user commented.

"Did she cheat on herself with someone else?" another joked.

"Who is paying the divorce lawyer bills…her or also her?" a third user mentioned.

The 'sologamy' phenomenon has been growing across social media stars, with other influencers also marrying and subsequently 'divorcing' themselves, seemingly to pursue conventional relationships or personal growth.

Carey considers her self-marriage a valuable journey of healing and self-exploration, but is now open to finding a partner.
