Tesla has been slammed after the EV manufacturer launched a ‘dystopian’ diner in the middle of Hollywood.

An aerial look at the new diner was shot by drones and posted on social media, where users have taken to react to it.

The diner comes with chargers for Tesla vehicles as well as an outdoor movie theater but some viewers were left feeling unsettled by the footage.

One user took to Reddit to share: “How did they manage to make a brand new diner feel so dystopian??

“There’s no pops of color. No quirky style. No fine touches… There’s literal decades of designs that they could’ve paid homage to, but instead they built something that looks like a CAD drawing. This brand needs a complete overhaul.”

Another wrote: “Those screens are insanely tacky. They picked the least visually appealing angle to record the building. What a wreck.”

A third commented: “I would have painted it white and silver to match a 50's diner. This looks like a strip club.”

And a fourth added: “I like the style, gives cyberpunk vibes.”

However, not everyone agreed with the idea that the diner is dystopian, with one user arguing: “This design language would be described as ‘retro-futurism’ and represents what people in the 50s and 60s imagined the future would look like. Fallout 3 and 4 use this style. It's a highly optimistic design paradigm that was supplanted by post-modernist, legitimately dystopian trends such as Brutalism that were prevalent in East-European communist countries. That is dystopian. This is optimistic.”

There has been much speculation about what the Tesla diner will actually be like inside once it’s complete, with some users reacting on X, formerly Twitter, to pieces of information dropped about the location.

One user wrote: “There’s an Optimus inside the Tesla Diner!” in response to a photo taken of a Tesla robot seemingly working inside the diner.

Tesla boss Elon Musk himself replied to the post, adding: “I just had dinner at the retro-futuristic @Tesla diner and Supercharger.

“Team did great work making it one of the coolest spots in LA!”

The diner can be found on Santa Monica Boulevard in LA and while it is not yet open to the public, it is hoped that it will soon open its doors.

The restaurant boasts two stories with an outdoor area located on the top level.

Musk first revealed back in 2018 that he was ‘gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA’.
