Let's be honest, the world of politics isn't exactly known for its fashion.
While the likes of Jackie O, India's Narendra Modi, and the Obamas are remembered for their striking style, Joe Biden and Donald Trump aren't exactly likely to appear in the next The Devil Wears Prada movie.
The current POTUS is remembered for his blue suit, red tie, and MAGA hat combo, and while it's definitely a signature style, we're not sure it's going to be setting any runways alight. One world leader now finds their own fashion choices going viral, although it's not for the reason you might be thinking of.
Following a surprise strike from the USA against Venezuela, and the apparent capture of President Nicolás Maduro, the country's leader has led to a bizarre spike in sales for Nike.

Given the history of how things went with Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, there were questions about whether Maduro had actually been captured or if he’d been killed during an attempt to bring him to the USA on multiple charges that include 'narco-terrorism'.

President Donald Trump dutifully obliged to provide proof of life, although most were distracted by the fact that Maduro was seen wearing a blindfold and a grey Nike Tech fleece tracksuit.
January 3's "Operation Absolute Resolve” led to Maduro being photographed aboard the USS Iwo Jima and looking about as comfortable as you can do after being captured. Eagle-eyed sleuths quickly deduced it was the “Dark Grey Heather/Black” colorway found on Nike’s US store, and within hours, the 'Maduro Fit' had sold out.
Considering it's January, we'd say it's a bit early to be planning your tasteless Halloween costumes.
As reported by Fortune, the "Dark Grey Heather/Black” Men’s Windrunner Full-Zip jacket was unavailable in almost all sizes, although a few smaller sizes remained before selling out.
The memes have been flooding in, with one person saying: "Nike Tech Fleece. For the gym. For errands. For federal custody."
Another chuckled: "50 Shades of Maduro Grey."
A third said: "Who knew sudden crisis chic would officially be 2026's hottest drop?"
Then we get to the reviews on the Nike site, with plenty of jokes about how the tracksuit is comfortable for long flights, or how it's a great look for the worst day of your life.
Google searches for 'Maduro Grey' have also spiked, and despite the fleece costing a hefty $140 with the accompanying track pants coming in at $120 (in the sale), it's not exactly cheap to dress like the captured politician.
Some claim that Nike has already done a quiet restock, but if you want to dress in the latest 'detained presidential chic' ahead of Trump opening his new ballroom on the former site of the East Wing, we suggest you get Maduro's fit in your shopping cart while you can.
Ultimately, it looks like there will only be one winner here...and it's Nike.
