Elon Musk says Donald Trump should be chiselled onto Mount Rushmore after his 2 weeks in office

The world's richest man has offered to do it himself

It's not every day that we get a returning President to the White House, and while the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Barack Obama have served two terms (Franklin D. Roosevelt died two months into his fourth), Donald Trump joins Grover Cleveland as the only two who've served non-consecutive terms.

Then again, it's not every day that we get a former host of The Apprentice as President of the United States.

President Trump has grand plans to make America 'great' again and has already vowed to usher in a new era when he told audiences at his January 20 inauguration: "The future is ours and our golden age has just begun."

While we learned to expect the unexpected when it came to Trump's first term, it's anyone's guess what this 'golden age' will involve. He's no stranger to ambitious mega builds, and as he promises to expand his infamous 'Trump Wall' now he's back in office, others want him to do something much bigger.

Calls for Trump to be carved into Mount Rushmore continue to swell, with the likes of former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski saying: "What are we waiting on? Donald Trump’s face should be on Mount Rushmore.

“We got the votes in the House. We got the votes in the Senate. I know a guy who is gonna sign it named Donald John Trump."

Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz cheered: "Hey, if there’s room up there, I think it’d be great.

"I think what Donald Trump has done and is in the process of doing is transforming the United States of America, and putting America first. And I think America loves it, and I think there’s a great case for it!"

One of the loudest voices has been Elon Musk, with the self-appointed 'First Buddy' throwing his weight behind the idea.

Trump has been trying to impose some hefty tariffs on Mexico, but hoping to avoid a financial emergency, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has folded to his demands and sent 10,000 Mexican soldiers to the border in hopes of stopping migrants and drugs from entering the USA.

Trump's supporters are claiming this as a major victory, and despite him only being a few weeks into his latest term, Musk is saying her should be immortalized on Mount Rushmore: "At this rate of achievement, not only should President @realDonaldTrump be on Mount Rushmore, I want to personally work the chisel!"

While it might seem mad to imagine Trump's face carved into Mount Rushmore alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, Florida representative Anna Paulina Luna has already filed legislation to make it happen. Luna is directing the secretary of the Interior to add President Trump to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, although there's no timeframe on when it could happen or how much it would cost.

Although Trump debunked a report in 2020 that the White House had appealed to then-South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem about adding him to Mount Rushmore, he did say that it "sounds like a good idea to me!"

Mount Rushmore hasn't added anyone new since it was completed in 1941, and despite many arguing there's room for someone else, the idea of having President Trump's visage carved into it is sure to be a divisive one.
