The murder of Charlie Kirk is still headline news, and as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson is due to be charged today (September 16), the finer details of the September 10 shooting are starting to come together.
Kirk was speaking at his American Comeback Tour during a visit to Utah Valley University when he was hit by a single gunshot while discussing gun violence with a passionate left-wing speaker.
There was a scramble to find Kirk's killer, with a series of botched arrests and the FBI eventually releasing clearer footage of the supposed assailant. A 33-hour manhunt ended when Tyler Robinson was apprehended and arrested after being turned in by his own father.
Alongside DNA evidence linking Robinson to the murder, the FBI had already released disturbing Discord messages that were allegedly sent before the MAGA commentator was killed.

Now, an apparent 'confession' has been shared, reportedly coming from Robinson shortly after Kirk was assassinated.

The Washington Post reports that two people familiar with a Discord group chat relayed the following message that apparently comes from Robinson. The suspected shooter is said to have confessed to Kirk's murder in an apology that reads: "Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this."
The message supposedly came just two hours before he was taken into custody, with screenshots given to the Post confirming that he'd confessed to the shooting. Discord has shared the messages with the FBI and local authorities while confirming it’s working with them to provide support to the investigation.

While the internet is awash with the typical misinformation, it's thought that Robinson is a right-wing supporter himself.
The group chat contained around 30 people, with Robinson's friends also sharing reactions to Kirk's shooting before they learned he was connected to it. One wrote, "Charlie Kirk got shot," while another added, "I just saw the video holy sh*t. Bro didn’t deserve to go out like that sad."
The day after, was the announcement of his 'bad news'.Robinson's message continued: "Im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. Thanks for all the good times and laughs, you’ve all been so amazing, thank you for everything."

The group chat apparently went quiet at this point until one member replied the next day and said the confession appeared to be true. At the same time, that person asked others in the group to "pray for Tyler and his repentance.”
This member then concluded: "While Charlie Kirk’s politics were not acceptable to some I ask that we all say a prayer for him and his family during these confusing times."
A court affidavit confirms Robinson was arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm, and obstruction of justice.
It's expected that Robinson will face capital murder charges, although reports suggest he's refusing to cooperate with authorities.
