Apple has announced it will be introducing a set of new emojis which will be coming to the iPhone this year and everyone is pointing out the same NSFW detail.
There are nine new emojis joining the already 3,900 emojis in the Unicode Standard which will be dropped on the iPhone later this year.
While there were many new emojis proposed, the nine selected are a squinting face emoji, left and right pointing thumb gestures, a pickle, a lighthouse, a meteor, an eraser, and a net with a handle.
And many people had a lot to say about the choices, with some taking to social media to share their own reactions to the news.

On Reddit, one user shared information about the additions, saying: “Squinting Face, Pickle, and Lighthouse Among New Emoji Coming to iOS. Apple Intelligence summary: The Unicode Consortium has published a draft list of 19 emoji candidates for Emoji 18.0, including a squinting face, pickle, and lighthouse. If approved, these emoji, along with 10 additional skin tone variants, would likely arrive on iPhones in late 2026 or early 2027 as part of iOS 27.”
This prompted replies from others, with one person writing: “Will pickle overtake eggplant?”
Another said: “Pickle or eggplant? Which team are you on?”
A third commented: “Eggplants days are numbered, and having Rob Van Dam thumbs is going to be great.”
And a fourth user added: “I can totally see the pickle becoming a new favorite, especially for food memes. Eggplant had its time in the spotlight, but pickles have that extra crunch, you know? Plus, who doesn't love a good pickle GIF?”

So, how soon can the emojis be put to use? It’s likely that Apple will start to roll them out alongside new software updates, which means we probably won’t have them until iOS 27 is here.
The operating system upgrade is likely to arrive in either late 2026 or early 2027, so the eggplant emoji is safe for now.
In other Apple news, iPhone users were left amazed at a little known hack which instantly transforms their photos to appear to be 3D.
This comes after a video was uploaded to the YouTube channel Raylo, which is a tech subscription service, that details some features on the iPhone 12 and newer with iOS 26+ you may not be aware of, with the first tip leaving a lot of users surprised.
