iPhones could soon get new charging speeds according to a reliable source.

The Apple vs Android battle has waged for as long as people born in the 90s can remember.

No doubt, whichever brand you trust with your phone is the one you’ll go to bat for. Whether it’s the sleek designs of Apple or the practical features of Android, they both have their perks.

With the announcement of iOS18 earlier this year bringing many exciting new features like Genmojis and even hidden apps, rumors around Silicon Valley have been swirling. And with Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Event kicking off, people are desperate for more tech rumors.

According to a report from reliable tech source 9to5Mac, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will up their charging speeds to support 20W charging with MagSafe and 40W wired fast charging.

Android users everywhere are probably screaming at those charging speeds as Android devices have boasted speeds of over 100W for a while. But this is a big step for Apple.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro and Oppo Reno 12 Pro for example both support 120W fast charging, with the Motorola Edge 40 offering a whopping 125W.

To put that into context, your typical iPhone offers between 20 and 27W charging speed, so this rumor is big news if true.

9to5Mac provided some further context of what the current iPhone 15 model offers, and what the 16 is rumoured to deliver when it comes to battery capacities.

  • iPhone 16 up 6.3% on iPhone 15
  • iPhone 16 Plus down on iPhone 15
  • iPhone 16 Pro up 2.5% on iPhone 15
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max up 5.7% on iPhone 15

Apple have had loads of other exciting announcements revealed this year after they were unveiled during the WWDC24 including other charging updates and the so-called ‘AI iPhone’ released as part of iOS18.

It was revealed that Siri will become the ultimate virtual assistant with the ability to edit photos, move files and even open a news site on Apple News all from a simple voice command.

The home screen will also become fully customized where users can move widgets and apps freely around.

For the first time, the tech giant is also introducing call recording and there are exciting changes for the Apple Watch.

It’s not all about the iPhone either, MacBook owners are also set to finally receive their compensation after the faulty keyboard incident.
