The morning commute can be tough, and the last thing you would expect to hear on the radio as you head to work is news of a grim discovery that has yet to be solved.
This is exactly what happened for commuters in Maryland last week when an anonymous caller phoned into a morning radio show to report what they had found.
The caller told of DC101’s Elliot in the Morning broadcast last Friday that the had found a body at a Frederick County campsite nearly three weeks before.
‘It was amazing,’ the caller shared with listeners, and host Elliot Segal.

Whilst most radio show callers talk about more light-hearted topics, such as what they’re planning to make for dinner, their weekend plans, or perhaps as part of a competition, this caller shared that they were actually quite excited about the discovery.
“This may sound sick but I’ve always wanted to come upon something like that, and luckily it was months old, so that was nice.”
Segal replied: “Tell me you called the police.”
But the caller apparently could not understand why he should call the police urgently because the body had reportedly been at the location for a long time. The anonymous caller, who told Segal that he had discovered the body 18 days earlier, said that it appeared to have been there for several months. He shared with the radio hosts he saw the body 'along the highway, it's a tent city from a year ago that was shut down'.
The caller asked the hosts: “Why do you think I need to do it right now?”

“Why? Because there’s a dead body that you found,” Segal responded
But the caller didn’t appear to feel the urgency of the situation and brushed off Segal’s pleas, saying he’d get round to reporting his discovery to the police later that day.
The host managed to convince the caller to contact the police immediately.
Several hours after the broadcast, the Frederick Police Department posted on social media that officers had located the body.
The department said: “We are aware of information shared earlier today on a local radio station regarding a deceased individual found in a wooded area off East Street and Carroll Creek Crossing.
“Detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division responded, located the individual and are now conducting an active investigation.”
A spokesperson for the department told the Washington Post that the body had been found ‘in a wooded area near the roundabout’ at Monocacy Boulevard and East Street, close to Interstate 70’.
The investigation into the death is ongoing and autopsy results are pending.
