The FBI have issued a major update on the manhunt for the shooter responsible for the death of Charlie Kirk.

This comes as the FBI holds a press conference to update the public on the police search that is currently underway.

Addressing reporters, Beau Mason, who is the commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, asked the public ‘to be patient’ as the manhunt is carried out.

What do the FBI know about the shooter?

The FBI has revealed that the shooter escaped through the neighborhood, confirming that there is footage of the shooter which has not been released to the public.

The authorities have also recovered a high powered rifle, which is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, in a wooded area.

Footwear impressions and palm prints have been collected for analysis as the police continue to work to locate the culprit.

The FBI has also confirmed that it has spoken with Kirk's wife, Erika, and his family.

Now, authorities are appealing to the public to ask anyone with any video footage of the incident to submit it to be analyzed by the experts.

The shooting of Charlie Kirk

The political commentator died on stage during an event in Utah yesterday (September 10) after he was shot in the neck.

Kirk was known for being outspoken about his right-wing views and was in the middle of his ‘American Comeback’ tour where he answered questions about various moral issues including gun control.

Appearing at Utah Valley University (UVU) to a crowd of around 3,000 people, Kirk was asked by an audience member: “Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last ten years?”

Kirk replied: “Counting or not counting gang violence?”

A shot could be heard immediately after and videos captured the political pundit falling from his seat after being struck in his neck.

It was later confirmed that Kirk had died from his injuries sustained in the gunshot wound.

In a statement on his own social media platform Truth Social, President Donald Trump said: “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
