With the takeover of the likes of Netflix and Disney Plus, it might seem like DVDs are a thing of the past - never mind VHS tapes.

Long gone are the days of using a pencil to rewind a movie and you’d be forgiven for thinking a VCR is nothing more than a relic.

There might be the odd VHS stashed away in the corner of a cupboard, probably collecting dust.

But what you might not realize is that some of them are worth a fortune.

There are classic and rare tapes that are worth up to $125,000 and you could be sitting on a goldmine without even knowing it.

So, here are some of the most valuable VHS tapes:

First off, we’ve got Rocky - if you own a factory sealed copy, that is.

Various reports have said that boxsets of the iconic movie franchise have gone for tens of thousands of dollars.

Comedian Pete Davidson shared that he had sold his sealed copy of the flick for almost $27,000.

Another big earner is the first edition alliance variant of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

This particular copy of the 1990 is hard to come by and even more difficult to find in mint condition.

So, if you happen to be in possession of one, you could be in to make up to $28,000.

One of the most well-known films of all time is ET and a limited edition holographic version of the VHS fetches a whopping $40,000.

In order for it to be worth such a high value, it’ll need to be the 20th foil holographic anniversary version which comes in a blue clamshell case.

But it isn’t just movies that come in highly sought after VHS tapes - one particularly expensive tape is actually a promotional video by Disney.

Titled Marking The Millennium, this video gives viewers a behind the scenes look at what went into the celebrations to mark the millennium at Walt Disney World and Epcot.

It only ran for around a year which makes it super rare so, if you have a copy, you could make around $45,000 from it.

However, nothing compares to the most lucrative VHS of all time which you might be surprised to find out is a copy of The Goonies.

The 1986 classic is a huge nostalgia hit but certain copies of the film can also be an enormous money earner.

Sealed copies of the movie have been sold on eBay for a fortune - in fact, one has gone for as much as $125,000.

Not bad!
