GTA 6 quietly makes appearance on PlayStation Store much earlier than anticipated

An early listing of one of the longest-awaited games of all time?

The gaming gods are smiling down on us and smiting us in equal measure, as although Grand Theft Auto 6 has been officially delayed until 2026, we've also got a brand-new look at what's to come from Rockstar Games. It's been 12 years (and counting) since GTA V became the most profitable entertainment product of all time, and although GTA 6 isn't even out yet, the fact that it's already smashing records has us hopeful that this will be another one for the history books.

Despite Take-Two Interactive repeatedly promising GTA 6 would be hitting that fall 2025 release date, our worst fears were confirmed when the publisher officially announced the next chapter of the automotive adventure will now release on May 26, 2026.

We've still got a whole year to wait until we'll be booting up our PS5s and Xbox Series consoles to see what's changed in Vice City, and if you're a PC player, who knows when GTA 6 will release.

The game promises to be a truly next-gen title that will only play on the most modern consoles, but by the looks of it, Rockstar could be favoring the Blue Team. As well as the developer confirming that all the footage in the second trailer was captured from gameplay and cutscenes on a PS5 (not even a PS5 Pro), eagle-eyed gamers have spotted what they think could be our first peek at the PS6 lurking in GTA 6.

Xbox stans are rightly concerned that GTA 6 is favoring PlayStation, which won't be helped due to the fact that listings are now live on the PlayStation Store. There's not much to go off, other than the fact confirmation that the game has been announced, some key art of protagonists Jason and Lucia, and the fact that it'll release on May 26 at 05:00 am BST.

Annoyingly, there's no news on what GTA 6 will actually cost. The fact that Nintendo is charging up to $90 for Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 has fuelled the fires that GTA 6 will cost at least $100, with some bracing for upwards of $120.

There are further concerns that Trump's tariffs could affect prices across the video game scene, meaning you might want to start saving now for GTA 6. As for how we'll be playing GTA 6, the PS5 Pro looks like it'll reign supreme as the go-to console of choice to get the most out of the game's jaw-dropping graphics. Some have already said GTA 6 looks like a PS6 game, but considering GTA V has been going strong for well over a decade, it makes sense that Rockstar wants to future-proof itself. It's true that we had the "Expanded & Enhanced" GTA V release in 2022, and somewhere way down the line, GTA 6 is likely to get a boost for the eventual PS6 and Xbox Series successor.

While you can get your wishlist in now for GTA 6 on the PlayStation Store, it still doesn't take the sting out of the fact that we've got to wait just over a year before we'll get to see what Rockstar has been cooking for all these years.
