GTA 6 release date update has been confirmed by Take Two

An update from Rockstar Games has revealed that GTA 6 is still on track for a release this autumn.

This is after Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive shared an official update to reassure fans after fears grew that the game could face delays.

It has been a long 12-year wait for fans of GTA 6 after the most recent instalment of Grand Theft Auto came out all the way back in September 2013.

Ever since, gamers have been patiently waiting for the sixth version and rejoiced when it was announced that the game was scheduled to be released in the autumn of 2025.

The announcement of the game was first made by Rockstar Games back in February 2022, with the company saying: “On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”

Take-Two Interactive also stirred up excitement with CEO Strauss Zelnick saying: “With development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases."

What consoles will it be available on?

What we know so far is that GTA 6 will available to play on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It’s not yet known which other platforms, if any, it will be arriving to.

Where is GTA 6 located?

Heading back to their roots, the game is set in Vice City, which is the original location of the first instalment.

It looks like the place has had a makeover though, after the original was set in 1986, this version appears to be more modern.

Rockstar has described the location setting as ‘the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet’.

Who are the characters?

Fans caught a first glimpse of Lucia in the official trailer, which was released late last year.

Breaking with tradition, Lucia will be the first ever female protagonist in the game’s history.

While not much is known about her yet, she’s shown in the trailer wearing prison clothing, indicating that she’s found herself in trouble with the law.

An unnamed male is also shown in the clip who seems to be set to be a main character.

What is the storyline?

GTA 6 appears set to follow a Bonnie-and-Clyde-type couple who pull off robberies together.

It’s not yet known whether both characters will be playable but given the fact that they both make an appearance in the game’s title card, there’s a very good chance that they could be.
