It's not often that you can pick up a major release for free with no strings attached, but a game from a big developer is being given away on Steam and Xbox this week - and you only have a few more days to claim it.
In the world of subscription service libraries like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass people have got used to not paying for every new release, and you even have the weekly drops on the Epic Game Store that often include blockbuster titles.
It's rare that a game gets given away for free on Steam though, and that's why many jump at the chance to add it to their already endless backlog of titles thanks to the extreme discounts available in the sales.
What game is free on Steam this week?

As reported by GAMINGbible, Steam and developer DONTNOD Entertainment have made 2020's Tell Me Why completely free to keep this week, but you will need to claim it before July 1 at 10 AM PT.
Split into three separate chapters, Tell Me Why is a narrative focussed game that tells the story of reunited twins Tyler and Alison, as they use their supernatural bond to unravel the memories of their childhood.
You might be familiar with some of DONTNOD's other games, as it is the developer behind the extremely popular Life is Strange series and the recently released Lost Records: Bloom & Rage.
If you enjoyed either of those titles - or simply want a great story to dive into - then it's definitely worth giving Tell Me Why a go. After all, it's free so you've got nothing to lose!
Is Tell Me Why free to keep forever?
As long as you claim Tell Me Why before the July 1 deadline, it will remain in your library forever at no cost. This is because the game is technically just part of a sale right now, although with a 100% off discount it costs you nothing to pick up.

You might even have already played the first episode, as that has been a free demo-like experience that's been available for a while now, so if you enjoyed that I would definitely recommend picking up the rest of the game while you can.
Many people have commented on how great Tell Me Why (and many of DONTNOD's other games) run on Steam Deck too, so if you've got Valve's popular handheld it might be one to consider for playing on the go.
Additionally, while it is already part of the Game Pass subscription library, Tell Me Why is also free to keep forever on Xbox right now so definitely pick it up there if you've got a Series X or Series S in your living room - and it could also be a great one for the upcoming Xbox handheld console later this year.
