One of the year's best games and 2025's top-selling title is actually available to play for free this week, yet the process of unlocking this access is rather complicated so you could be easily missing out.
Everybody loves a free game, and we're thankfully blessed with new ones every single month between PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass, and all of the zero-cost titles on Steam right now.
On top of this many of the biggest multiplayer titles often have limited time events where they open up access to everyone with a free weekend or week-long trial, letting you try it out with your friends before you decide to fork up the heft cost of entry.
One unexpected title that has recently become the best selling game of the year on almost every platform has now opened up its gates to everyone who hasn't yet taken the plunge, and this could be what you need to join the millions who are enjoying Battlefield 6 right now.

The Battlefield series has had a rough time over the last few entries, and what was once a competitive battle with Call of Duty quickly saw EA's franchise become somewhat irrelevant, yet the sixth numbered entry has won out this year and become 2025's first-person shooter pick.
Gaming industry analyst Mat Piscatella recently revealed on Bluesky that Battlefield 6 is now the best-selling game of the year on both Xbox and PC, and comes only second to NBA 2K26 on PlayStation for year-to-date sales.
Content - Battlefield 6 launched as the best-selling game in franchise history, with its October 2025 volume surpassing the lifetime sales total of the previous record holder, Battlefield 1.

There's still plenty of people out there who haven't yet had the chance to pick it up though, so here's everything you need to do if you want to try it out for a week with no extra cost.
As shared by the Independent, accessing Battlefield 6's free week is a little more complicated than you might expect, as you first need to download Battlefield REDSEC from your storefront of choice.
This is the free-to-play battle royale standalone game that has recently become available, but it's within the menus here that you'll be able to get a limited taste of the multiplayer action available in the paid main game.

Once you've installed everything and booted the game up, you should see the option to play standard multiplayer, giving you access to the Blackwell Fields, Eastwood, and Siege of Cairo maps.
You can jump into the Initiation Breakthrough playlist which is specifically designed for newcomers, or you can opt for classics like Conquest or Escalation if you're already familiar with the series.
What's more, any progress you make in this limited-time mode will carry over to the main game if you do decide to buy it, so there's no downside it giving it a try during this week.
The trial period started this week on Tuesday, and runs until December 2 at which access will be locked off at 12 p.m. GMT (7 a.m. ET / 4 a.m. PT).
