Convenience and portability are everything when you're on the go with your tech gadgets.

Having to cram all your charging cables, plugs and adaptors for all your electronics is one of those dreaded packing nightmares.

Luckily, most high-end tech companies have made this easier now for travellers by going wireless.

Then, dual charging made it even better.

Tech giant Apple discontinued its MagSafe Duo Charger, which charged two Apple gadgets at the same time, immediately following its iPhone 15 launch event. Both accessories are no longer available to order on Apple's online store which left its users in a bit of a muddle searching for an alternative.

However, Twelve South’s new ButterFly might be the new favourite travel companion for Apple fans.

Similar to the MagSafe Duo, the ButterFly 2-in-1 MagSafe Charger features two magnetic charging pucks in a fold-up design, which simultaneously charges your iPhone and Apple Watch or your AirPods.

The ButterFly package comes with a 20W adapter for fast charging, along with four international plug adapters ( for the US, UK, EU and Australia), making it ideal for international trips.

Twelve South launched the ButterFly in December 2023, dubbing it 'the world’s smallest 2-in-1 USB-C MagSafe charger.'

If you were curious, the 'ButterFly' name comes from the shape, with two magnetic sides connected by a small strap in the middle.

When folded up, the aluminium ButterFly case measures just two inches around and fits perfectly in the palm of a hand.

The company designed the gadget with travel in mind so the whole thing is lightweight and low-profile.

Unfolded, there's a dedicated 15W MagSafe charger on one side for your iPhone and an Apple Watch charging puck on the other - all while only needing one free wall socket.

Furthermore, the Apple Watch charger supports fast charging for the Apple Watch Series 7 and later models. Users can prop the ButterFly charger up so the device can be used in Nightstand Mode, as well as using the other half to charge AirPods.

All of this doesn't come at a cheap price as you probably already suspected.

The ButterFly is priced at $129.99 if you purchase from Twelve South's store directly, making it slightly more expensive than the MagSafe Duo.

The design has done extremely well in fact to incorporate Apple's MagSafe design as well as fast charging to provide a premium, portable perfect travel companion for Apple fans on the move.
