Spotify users have just one last chance to refund a beloved device before it is discontinued.

The music streaming service is shutting down one of its products and owners have just over a month to get a refund.

The Car Thing was first announced in 2019 and launched two years later in April 2021.

The gadget was designed to connect to your phone which then connects to the car’s speakers, meaning that you can play Spotify music directly in your car.

However, it’s bad news for fans of the device and it has been announced that it is being discontinued.

On the website, Spotify said: “We have made the decision to discontinue Car Thing. This means that Car Thing will no longer be operational. This decision wasn't made lightly, and we want to assure you that our commitment to providing a superior listening experience remains unchanged.

“We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the support and enthusiasm you have shown for Car Thing. It has been an incredible journey, and we are grateful for all the miles we’ve shared.”

Anyone who owns the product has until January 14 2025 to get in touch with the company for a refund.

People who use Car Thing took to social media to share their remorse that they’ll no longer be able to use the product.

Posting a photo on Reddit, one user shared the final message that is displayed on the screen.

It read: “Car Thing is discontinued and no longer operational. Thank you for being on this journey with us, safe travels. For more information, visit carthing.com. Contact customer service by no later than January 14th, 2025 to discuss your refund options.”

If you own a Car Thing, you’ll also need to provide Spotify with proof of purchase in order to get your money back.

Other users took to the Reddit thread to give their opinions on the product shutting down.

One user wrote: “I hate Spotify for this.”

Another said: “I’m more pissed than sad.”

A third person commented: “I should have posted this sooner to save some of y'all from the disappointment but disabling automatic app updates stopped the bricking of the device. Mine thankfully is still operational (for now) but I will update if it does stop working.”

A fourth commented: “I jail broke mine so it’s still working as normal.”

And fifth added: “Listened to it one last time on the way into work. Sigh.”
