Apple is hoping to usher in a new era of making movies as it releases its first-ever immersive horror. While you might associate the tech giant with creating the Mac and the iPhone, it's also branched into the world of entertainment with shows and movies.
Apple TV launched as a streaming service in 2019, immediately causing a buzz with the likes of The Morning Show before having even more mainstream success with Ted Lasso. These days, Apple TV takes on the likes of Netflix and Disney+ with Severance, Slow Horses, Pluribus, Widow's Bay, and more.
An equally impressive roster of original film offerings has spanned Killers of the Flower Moon to F1, The Gorge to Matchbox: The Movie. Apple isn't known for its horror, with Martin Scorsese's What Happens at Night pitched as the company's first.

That's not technically true, with Ti West's Remnants coming out on October 16. It looks like the X and Pearl director is sticking with horror for his next project.
More than just being a rare horror for Apple, it's billed as its first immersive horror. As that suggests, Remnants makes the most of Apple Immersive (AIV) that was introduced as a specialized media format developed exclusively for the Apple Vision Pro headset.
We previously reported how lukewarm sales led to Apple scaling back production on the Vision Pro, with many turning their nose up at the device's $3,500 price tag. Alongside complaints about the weight of the Vision Pro, it was outpriced by competitors including the Meta Quest and PSVR.
There's no denying the Vision Pro is a premium product, but with that, it's become something of a nice luxury.
Still, if you're a Vision Pro customer, you can make the most of AIV's 180-degree video and send your pulse racing with Remnants.
While AIV has largely been used for documentary-style short films and immersing yourself in sports, a horror-fuelled experience like Remnants is something of a gamble.
There isn't a full trailer, but instead, we're told: “Watch as they step inside Woldmere Castle and enter the unsettling world created by writer and director Ti West."
Starring Bohemian Rhapsody's Lucy Boynton and The Fantastic Four: First Steps' Ralph Ineson, we're told to 'face evil' in this Vision Pro exclusive.

Remnants is filmed in 3D with 8K resolution, boasting a 180-degree field of view and Spatial Audio, meaning it won't be one for the faint-hearted.
Apple has shown off first reactions to the movie, with viewers looking suitably spooked. There's plenty of quaking Vision Pro users, screaming, and swear words in the promo, but it seems others were divided.
Even though comments were disabled on the YouTube video, one person on X got more likes than the official post when they joked: "The true jumpscare was seeing Apple actually market the Vision Pro again."
Another added: "Great.. can you buy for me Vision Pro..?"
A third concluded: "Oh, I am watching this. All the dust on the Vision Pro will be wiped that day 😂🤣😂."
While Remnants could sit alongside the likes of Resident Evil and Obsession as one of 2026’s best horrors, it seems most of us won't be able to watch.
