With the recent launch of iOS 18, Apple fans have been trying out the new features now available.

The operating system update was released to improve users’ experience of the iPhone, with brand new functions including home screen customization and a redesign of the control center.

From there, users can rearrange and resize their controls, and even add more controls from the Controls gallery.

Another new feature with iOS 18 is the ability to lock and hide apps using Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. If you want, you can hide an app away into a hidden apps folder that’s locked.

The Photos app has also had a makeover so, instead of seeing a list of tabs when you open it, you’re greeted with the main grid of photos, displaying around 30 pics on the screen.

In order to see a list of albums, you’ll need to scroll down and you can adjust the number of images on the page by pinching in or out.

However, some iPhone users have been left disappointed after finding out that the iOS 18 update has made a drastic change to a popular app, with some saying it’s made it ‘unusable’.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to share their reactions to the new feature, one user wrote: “The new Photo App in iOS 18 is one of the worst designs Apple has ever released. I can’t believe it survived multiple betas. I hate it so much.”

Another said: “The iOS 18 photos app is such an unintuitive mess. Nothing makes sense anymore, the whole thing is just a never ending swipe up & down atrocity. @Apple please add an option to revert to old UI design!”

A third person commented: “iOS 18 Photos app is really bad, I was hoping people were just wrong but no, it’s unusable and has barely any memory allocated (but that could just be a bug).”

And a fourth added: “iOS 18 photos app I’m so sorry for what they’ve done to u.”

That being said, not everyone was so against the new iOS 18 design of the Photos app.

A more positive user took to social media to write: “With iOS 18, you can keep your library organized and make it super easy to find photos fast.

“It's gorgeous yet familiar look puts everything you want right at your fingertips, so you can spend less time searching and more time enjoying your memories.”
