iOS 18 introduces ‘game-changing’ feature to iPhone that has people deleting other apps

Apple fans have waited a long time for a feature like this

Apple’s iOS 18 update has brought a bunch of new features including advanced Siri features that can call you a taxi as well as more customisable emojis for iMessage, and increased privacy.

But there’s another feature that’s making iPhone users' lives way easier.

AppleHub shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) with screenshots showing the iPhone’s new feature on the Calculator app.

The post shared on 17 September read: "You can convert units or currency in the Calculator app in iOS 18".

Users are so thankful that many have admitted they’ve already deleted third-party apps they used for conversions before.

"This is a really useful feature for me. I deleted 2 currency conversion apps because iOS has this now!!" one user replied.

"Being able to convert currency now is a great feature. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve had to use Google to look up an exchange rate," another X user added.

Some believe this is a great leap for Apple, commenting: "Improvement for sure" and "finally" alongside some humourous gifs reflecting the long wait for something like this.

"Finally, now I can stop asking Siri for exchange rates like it’s 2010," another chimed in.

"They just killed an app I was willing to pay for lmao now that this is free and built in I’ll just use that," one other user admitted.

According to the official Apple website, you can activate this feature by simply following these steps:

  1. Open the Calculator app, tap the Calculator Mode button and turn on Convert.
  2. Tap the Conversion menu and choose the units or currencies you want to convert.
  3. Swipe the categories at the top to find others like Speed, Time, and Weight.
  4. Enter a value in either field and you’ll see the conversion as you type.

This feature is reportedly available in Math Notes, where a mathematical problem can be written out and the device's integrated AI can generate the solution in the note.

So, no more fumbling around across several apps trying to split the bill or share costs with friends and family.

This feature isn't just limited to the Calculator app either. According to MacRumors, iOS 18 also introduced a similar feature in the Messages app, allowing users to do quick calculations and conversions without leaving their chat.

Thanks to this game-changing Math Notes functionality, which is integrated into Messages, users are able to complete more actions in one place.
